A local family built The Rock in response to the death of their daughter who was killed during a drug deal on the streets. They wanted other teenagers to have a safe place to hang out when they weren't in school - a place built just for them filled with music, food, laughter, games, and plenty of adults who know and care about them.
It's a model that works. Over 70 students a day come through our doors. In fact, many of our volunteers happily remember hanging out at The Rock when they were in high school.
Over the years, the organization has expanded, but the mission stays the same - create a safe, fun, and inviting space for kids and teens while providing low-cost meals and snacks and investing in their lives.
Volunteers are ready to share the love of Jesus and the gospel message, however students are not required to be believers to be loved, respected, encouraged, and served by Rock volunteers.
In the evenings and on weekends, the cafe is used by like-minded groups and churches aiming to enrich the lives of people in the community.
Two staff members, Rhonda Cahill & Janet Pannell, and over 50 volunteers work together to operate The Rock.
An engaged board of directors - comprised primarily of youth pastors and entrepreneurs - provides direction, prays faithfully, and serves regularly in the cafe.
With additional funding and volunteers, The Rock can do even more! We have our sights set on expanding the cafe's hours and offering additional programming and, with the help of our generous community, building another site across from Gallatin High School as soon as possible.
